Apple devices have two modes of recovery. One is DFU mode and the other is Recovery mode. Actually, they are not the same thing. DFU mode is short for Development Firmware Upgrade. While in DFU mode, your device is kind of forced to restore. It allows you to upgrade or downgrade your iOS. In Recovery Mode, it will remind you to connect to iTunes and USB cable icon will be on display. The main difference between the two modes is when in DFU mode, Mac OS system will not be enabled and iTunes can't stop the recovery process. Follow us and here is two different parts about how to enter DFU mode and Recovery mode on your iPhone.
First of all, connect your iPhone to the computer with a USB cable. Then follow the steps below to enter DFU mode.
Step 1. Hold the "Power" button for 3 seconds to turn the phone off
Step 2. Then hold the "Power" and "Home" button at the same time for exactly 10 seconds
Step 3. Release "Power" button, but keep holding "Home" button for another 10 seconds or more. Release it when the computer beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Now your device is in DFU mode and the screen is totally black with no contents displayed. Open iTunes and it will remind you to restore your device in DFU mode.
Step 1. Firstly, disconnect your iPhone with the USB cable and turn it off.2. Hold "Home" button and plug your device in.
Step 2. The device will display the message "Connect to iTunes" then. iTunes will also pops up a message telling you it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Step 3. Surely, if you want to exit recovery mode, you can hold "Home" and "Power" button simultaneously until it shows Apple LOGO.
